— The latest rash of car break-ins in a Fort Mill neighborhood has deputies once again reminding residents to keep their cars locked after thieves broke into seven unlocked cars and an unlocked garage this week, stealing sunglasses and laptops, authorities say.

Deputies on Wednesday were sent to a Grey Rock Drive home, where a woman, 44, reported that between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, someone broke into three cars parked in her driveway, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. A Dell work laptop worth $1,000 was stolen, along with a $450 pair of sunglasses, a pair of $150 sunglasses and a third pair of prescription sunglasses worth $700. None of her cars suffered any significant damage; all the cars were unlocked.

Authorities spoke with another woman, 62, who told deputies that while her car was parked on nearby Mills Lane, someone stole her prescription sunglasses and a USB charger from her unlocked car. Deputies also spoke with a second resident on Grey Rock Drive who told deputies someone went inside his trailer but did not appear to steal anything.

Also on Mills Lane, a neighbor, 63, reported that thieves went inside his unlocked detached garage and broke in to two cars, both unlocked. He told deputies the burglars went through the unlocked door leading to the office area above his garage. He did not report anything stolen by the time deputies were taking a report.

Deputies continue to ask residents to lock their car doors at all times and remove valuable items from their vehicles.
