Foster, Wancheck help Northwestern to softball win

Brooke Foster drove in Meredith Cudd with a perfectly executed squeeze bunt to give the Northwestern Trojans softball team a 1-0 nine-inning win over the Nation Ford Falcons in a Region 3-AAAA contest at Northwestern.

Kori Wancheck picked up the win a complete-game shutout. She scattered five hits and struck out 15.

Boys’ Golf

The South Pointe Stallions won the Stallion Invitational Tournament at Pinetuck Golf Course by shooting a team score of 326.

Rock Hill’s Coble Panetti was the medalist with a score of 71. He carded a 33 on the front nine and a 38 on the back.

Blythewood finished second with a team score of 329. Clover was third, while York and Nation Ford tied for fourth.

Wyatt Reid led the Stallions with a 79. Chris Taylor and Bryan Edwards both finished with 82s, and Cody Taylor fired an 85.

The York Cougars won the junior-varsity tournament with a team score of 372. Landon Joye led the Cougars with an 87.

The medalist for the junior-varisty tournament was Taylor Faile of Blythewood with a 76.

Buford 170, Chesterfield 204, Great Falls 236: Garrett Crenshaw fired a 40 and led the Buford Yellow Jackets to a pair of wins in a non-region tri-match at Lancaster Golf Club.

Clover 5, Rock Hill 1: The Blue Eagles won four singles matches and one doubles match and defeated the Rock Hill Bearcats 5-1 in a Region 3-AAAA matchup at Clover.

Fort Mill 7, Rock Hill 5: The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning and claimed a come-from-behind win over the Rock Hill Bearcats in a Region 3-AAAA contest at Rock Hill.

Girls’ Soccer

Indian Land 6, York 0: Shalyn Dougherty scored three goals and led the fourth-ranked Indian Land Warriors to a win over the York Cougars in non-region action at York.

Kate Komorous, Babs Marshall, and Emma Gladu each added a goal for the Warriors. Gladu had two assists, while Marshall and Dougherty had one each.

Erica Krul worked in the net for Indian Land. She recorded the shutout and got two saves.

The win improved Indian Land to 5-2, while York fell to 0-4.
