A Rock Hill Democrat will square off against state Rep. Ralph Norman, R-Rock Hill, in this year’s race for a seat representing York County.
Barry McGrew filed his notice to run on Friday with the state Elections Commission. The filing period opened March 16 and will close noon Sunday.
Norman, who has held the District 48 seat since 2009, filed for re-election at the start of the filing period last week.
His challenger is a member of the board of the York County Council on Aging, which oversees elder issues and operates the county’s Access bus system. McGrew also sits on the city of Rock Hill’s Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, which oversees the city’s annual Interfaith Breakfast with county and local leaders.
McGrew is the first non-incumbent to file for a state seat representing York County this election cycle and the only challenger so far for Norman’s seat.
McGrew was unavailable for comment at the time this was written.
