A Hickory Grove man was sentenced in federal court for failure to register as a sex offender, according to a release issued Thursday from United States Attorney Bill Nettles.
Jordan Hughey will spend 18 months in prison followed by five years supervised release.
Hughey served a prison sentence in California after being convicted of raping a mentally disabled person, according to the release. As the result of this conviction, Hughey was required to register as a sex offender wherever he lived when he was released from prison in June 2012.
Instead of registering in California, Hughey moved to South Carolina where he also failed to register, officials say.
Hughey was arrested in South Carolina 10 months later and taken back to California for violating his parole. After serving a short sentence, Hughey was released and moved to Hickory Grove in western York County. He was arrested on Sept. 13, 2013.
