High school roundup: Northwestern softball blanks Rock Hill

The Northwestern Trojans collected 13 hits and blanked the Rock Hill Bearcats 17-0 in a Region 3-AAAA softball contest at Northwestern.

Kori Wancheck picked up the win. She allowed only one hit and struck out 10.

Wancheck helped her own cause with a pair of hits, including a home run and two RBIs. Rachel Marion added a pair of hits, including a grand slam home run.

Clover 12, York 2: The Blue Eagles pounded out 11 hits and defeated the Cougars in a Region 3-AAAA contest at Clover.

Brooke Andrews led the offensive attack with three hits. Elizabeth Edmunds pitched a complete game, striking out four, to pick up the win.

Trey Keels pitched a no-hitter for the win in the opener, while Drew Colvin did the same in the nightcap.

Austin Bradshaw and Evan Sisk each had a pair of hits in the twinbill.

Lewisville improved to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the region with the wins.

The Rock Hill Bearcats swept a Region 3-AAAA meet from the Nation Ford Falcons.

The Rock Hill girls won 107-32, while the boys won 89-52.

Great Falls 208, North Central 262: Josh Payseur carded a 34 to claim medalist honors and lead the Great Falls Red Devils to a win over North Central in a Region 3-A match at Republic Golf Course in Great Falls.

Girls’ Soccer

Northwestern 2, Rock Hill 0: Caroline Sumwalt and Ashly Siggins each scored one goal and added an assist to lead the Northwestern Trojans to a 2-0 win over the Rock Hill Bearcats in a Region 3-AAAA match at District Three Stadium.

Northwestern improved to 4-2 in the region with the win.


Clover 13, Rock Hill 0: Elizabeth Edmunds pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Blue Eagles to a win over the Bearcats in a Region 3-AAAA game at Rock Hill.

Blake Wallert led the offensive attack for Clover with a pair of hits, including a home run, and three runs batted in.

Records: Clover 10-2, 6-0 in Region 3-AAAA; Rock Hill 3-7, 3-6

Indian Land 9, Chester 8: The Warriors scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Cyclones in a nonregion game at Indian Land.

Kayla Price picked up the win for the Warriors. She helped her own cause with a two-run home run. Alli Yarborough added a pair of hits and drove in three runs.

Indian Land improved to 5-2 overall with the win.

Boys’ Soccer

Fort Mill 4, Nation Ford 1: The Yellow Jackets scored three goals in the first half and went on to defeat the Falcons in a Region 3-AAAA match at Nation Ford.

Hunter Stricklin scored two goals for the Yellow Jackets, while Mike Usina and Austin Cassidy each added one. Keegan Downie had two assists for Fort Mill, while Jeremy LaPointe added one.

Jon Strikla scored the only goal for Nation Ford.
