— A high school student in Rock Hill was charged with assault after police say he punched a fellow student and put him in a headlock because the victim allegedly talked about his girlfriend.

Police were sent to the Applied Technology Center on S.C. 5 on Monday after a school administrator called in reference to an assault, according to a Rock Hill police report. The victim, 18, told police that while he was in the tool room, Austin Cody Davis, 17, walked in and punched him in the face. Davis allegedly then put him in a headlock. The victim managed to push Davis away and told a teacher what happened.

Davis confirmed the victim’s story, the report states, and claimed he punched the victim because he was talking about his girlfriend.

Police charged Davis with third-degree assault and battery. He turned himself in to authorities after warrants were issued.
