String of armed robberies in York, suspects unknown

— York Police responded to a string of armed robberies this past week in which one person was injured and others were threatened, according to reports.

It is unclear if the robberies are connected, but all share similar descriptions for suspects and took place near victims’ cars. In two instances, suspects specifically demanded cash and marijuana.

The first armed robbery was reported on Thursday night by a 23-year-old woman from Blacksburg who told police she and her boyfriend were robbed while driving to York to visit a friend.

According to the report, more than $1,000 worth of jewelry, a purse, a wallet, mobile phones and cash were stolen from her when two unidentified men threatened them with a gun.

One of the assailants yelled, “Give me all you got” and then fired his gun into the curb, causing a piece of asphalt to hit the 26-year-old boyfriend’s ankle. The couple was so scared and unfamiliar with the area that they drove back to Blacksburg before notifying police, the report states.

The couple told police they were following a car they thought belonged to a friend they were meeting in York. The driver led them down White Rose Lane before stopping and exiting the vehicle, and then threatening the couple.

The couple described the suspects as two black males dressed in dark clothing and driving a 1990s Gold Honda Accord, the report reads.

The next two armed robberies occurred within an hour of each other early Saturday morning.

A 25-year-old from Rock Hill reported that he and his 20-year-old friend, also from Rock Hill, were threatened by two black men dressed all in black while walking to their car near Pecan Circle in York.

According to the report, a suspect told the Rock Hill men, “Give me everything! Money and weed! I know y’all got it!”

Both victims ran off, but the robbers took an iPhone and a set of car keys belonging to the 20-year-old. When police returned to the scene of the robbery with the 25-year-old, both victims began to recant the story or told officers they no longer wanted to file a report.

An hour later, police responded to a third armed robbery at Galilean Road where a 23-year-old York man told police he was robbed while walking to his car by two black men dressed all in black.

The report states that one of the suspects fired his handgun in the air and shouted, “Give it up. We want everything. Money and weed.” The suspects made off with $100 in cash and a mobile phone valued at $200.

No shells were recovered in instances where the gun was fired, but police noted difficulty obtaining evidence during heavy rain over the weekend.
