LAKE WYLIE — Six homes in four neighborhoods will open their doors Saturday for the 29th annual Clover/Lake Wylie Home & Garden Tour.
“All of the houses are surrounded by water except one,” said Suzanne Krause, event organizer with Clover/Lake Wylie Republican Women.
The tour aims for variety. Continuing a trend from recent years, three homes on the six-house circuit are in River Hills; other neighborhoods featured include The Landing, Heron Cove and RiverPointe in Steele Creek. Some sit by a golf course, some beside a cove. There’s a remodeled home, a homeowner-designed one and some large, “typical new Lake Wylie homes,” Krause said.
The Wade home at 33 New River Trace was recently remodeled to double the number of bathrooms and include a photography studio in the three-bedroom home.
“This is a very young couple who took a very small house, and they have expanded it,” Krause said.
Brian Wade said it took two remodels during two years to finish the home, now 3,000 square feet.
“We did a complete remodel,” he said. “We doubled the size of the house.”
He works as a Realtor and his wife, Beth, works as a photographer – both are jobs where home and style meet.
“She wanted to show off her home studio,” Brian Wade said.
The Stiff home at 4 Catawba Ridge is the design of John Stiff, an engineer with interests in architecture, piloting planes and other fields.
“He’s got a lot of expensive hobbies,” said his wife, Tracy Stiff.
The Stiffs closed on their golf course lot in 1997 and keep a scrapbook showing stages of the 13-month build. It’s their third home in River Hills, with high ceilings and a large brick fireplace that’s actually a three-in-one. The fireplace runs to warming spots in the living room, bedroom and the extra room downstairs.
The home also has views of a nearby tee box from just about every room.
“We liked the openness and the light,” Tracy Stiff said.
All six homes on the tour are within 15 minutes driving distance. Maps to each home line the backs of each ticket.
Tickets are $20; proceeds go to Clover High School’s Fay Bergman Scholarship, awarded to qualified seniors in May. A luncheon at River Hills Country Club will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for an additional $16 that can be paid on-site.
