High school roundup: Trojans finish region softball slate unbeaten

Northwestern 7, Rock Hill 1: The Trojans completed their first undefeated season in school history with a 7-1 victory over the Bearcats in Region 3-AAAA play at Rock Hill.

Kori Wancheck pitched a six-hitter to pick up her 17th win of the year. She struck out eight.

Lorna Day had three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Trojans at the plate. Cassie Wancheck and Brooke Foster both had two hits for Northwestern.

Bailey Hinson had three hits to lead Rock Hill.

The Rock Hill Bearcats won four singles matches and topped the Northwestern Trojans 4-2 in a Region 3-AAAA match at Rock Hill High.

Indian Land 7, Lewisville 0: Shalyn Dougherty scored three goals and led the Indian Land Warriors to a 7-0 win over the Lewisville Lions in non-region action at Indian Land.

Katherine Kilroy and Kristen Carpenter both added a pair of goals for the Warriors, who built a 5-0 lead at intermission.

Kate Komorous had two assists for Indian Land, while Kelsey Groll, Caitlyn Loughery, and Carpenter each had one.

The win improved third-ranked Indian Land to 11-5 on the year.

South Pointe hosting Clowney draft party

South Pointe High School will host an NFL Draft party for alum Jadeveon Clowney on May 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. Clowney and his immediate family will be in New York City at Radio City Music Hall, where the draft is being held, but music and concessions will be offered at South Pointe.

Martinez scores twice in Railhawks’ opener

Former Northwestern Trojan soccer standout Enzo Martinez scored twice for the Carolina Railhawks last weekend in their season-opening 4-1 win over Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Martinez opened the scoring with a 27th minute penalty before putting his team up 3-1 in the second half with a 72nd minute strike. Martinez sisgned with the Cary-based NASL team this offseason after being released by MLS side Real Salt Lake.
