The 33rd Annual Congressional Art Competition for the Fifth Congressional District, will be on display through Friday in the Perimeter Gallery at the Center for the Arts, 121 East Main St., Rock Hill.
The winners were:
Glimpse by Christian Pellot, Fort Mill High School, first place;
Kultuur by Emily Beckley, Northwestern High School, second place;
Wet Spoon by Christian Pellot, Fort Mill High School, third place
Hiding Behind Illusions by Karen Nicole Smith, Rock Hill High School, honorable mention;
Shokolad by Yulia Tretiakova, Northwestern High School, honorable mention;
Contact by Sally Frost, Fort Mill High School, honorable mention and
Tethered by Madison Martin, Northwestern High School, honorable mention.
The winners and competition participants will be honored at a 3 p.m. reception Sunday at the Center for the Arts.
• Nathaniel Brown, a senior at Rock Hill High School, won the Optimist South Carolina District essay contest. The theme was How Dreams Lead to Success.
Brown won a $2,500 scholarship and the essay will be sent to the international level for judging.
• Kim Allman of Rock Hill won the South Carolina Writers Workshop 2014 Scott Lax Scholarship to Wildacres Writing Workshop in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
• Kourtney Owens was crowned the 2014 winner of the Miss Sterling Lodge pageant and voted Miss Congeniality. Runners up were Tierra Hicks, first; Alexis Mitchell, second and Tiffanique Irby Lightner, third. The scholarship pageant is sponsored by Sterling Lodge No. 344 and Living Beauty Temple No. 709.
