Softball, baseball playoffs open Thursday

bmccormick@heraldonline.comApril 30, 2014

Despite cranky-looking clouds looming over the Tri-County area much of Wednesday, most local softball and baseball teams were able to practice outdoors. That was crucial because the postseason for Classes A, AA and AAAA start Thursday, with Class AAA softball and baseball kicking off Friday.

The late arrival of of New Testament-worthy storms predicted by weathermen and radars, enabled 16 local softball and baseball teams to get in some last-minute work before postseason play begins.

Lewisville and Northwestern are unique in the area for getting both their baseball and softball teams into the postseason as No. 1 seeds and district hosts. Fort Mill also got both of its bat-sport teams in, as did Great Falls, Chester and Nation Ford. Rock Hill baseball made the cut, while Clover softball took the No. 2 spot from Region 3-AAAA. Indian Land baseball and Lancaster softball were the other solo school entries, claiming No. 4 spots from their regions.
