Lions light up the board in the sixth

BASEBALL

Lewisville 11, Southside Christian 0: The Lewisville Lions scored nine times in the bottom of the sixth and claimed the Class A District III title with a win over Southside Christian at Richburg.

Austin Bradshaw’s three-run home run capped the nine-run outburst and ended the game.

It was Bradshaw’s second hit of the game. Denver Moseley also had a pair of hits and drove in two runs for the Lions, who improved to 22-5 with the win.

Christian Cok pitched a complete game to pick up the win and improve to 6-1 on the year. He allowed only one hit and struck out seven.

The Lions will host Fox Creek in the first round of the Upper State playoffs on 1 p.m. Saturday.

Indian Land 11-4, Buford 0-0: The Indian Land Warriors won both games of a doubleheader against the Buford Yellow Jackets and won the District III Class AA title at Buford.

The Warriors won the first game 11-0 behind Jake Dyer’s two-hitter. Mike Webb led the offensive attack in the first game with a pair of home runs, including a grand slam. He drove in seven runs.

Indian Land won the second contest 4-0 behind Chris Cantrell’s five-hitter. Dyer and Webb led the offense. Dyer had a double and a triple and drove in two runs. Webb added a sacrifice fly to the winning effort.

The Warriors, 16-7 overall, play at Central of Pageland on Saturday in the first round of the Upper State playoffs.

SOFTBALL

Lewisville 14, Tamassee-Salem 4: The Lewisville Lions pounded out 13 hits and defeated Tamassee-Salem to win the Class A District III title at Richburg.

Chloe Thomas pitched a complete game for the win. She scattered four hits and struck out seven to improve to 11-0 on the year.

Lewisville broke open a close game with five runs in the fifth inning. When the Lions added three more in the sixth the game was over.

Logan Miller led the offense with four hits, including a triple and four RBI. Autumn Jordan also had four hits, including a pair of triples, and drove in three runs, while Deandra Ealey had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.

The win improved Lewisville to 24-2 on the year. The Lions will host Fox Creek at 1 p.m. Saturday in the opening round of the Upper State playoffs.

Clover 3-3, Blythewood 10-2: The Clover Blue Eagles won the second game of a doubleheader against Blythewood and won the District II Class AAAA title at Clover.

After Blythewood won the opening contest 10-3, Clover came back to claim the nightcap 3-2 to move on the Upper State playoffs.

Clover scored the winning run in the top of the seventh to win the game. The Blue Eagles managed seven hits in the second game.

Brittany Rhinehardt led Clover’s seven-hit attack in the second game with a pair of hits and one RBI. Katie Robinson also had two hits for the Blue Eagles.

Elizabeth Edmunds picked up the win in the second game. She tossed a complete game, scattering five hits and struck out three.
