Former Clemson, Rock Hill football star Hugh Mauldin dies at 69

— Hugh Mauldin, a Rock Hill native and star halfback at Clemson in the 1960s who was nicknamed "Mustang," died Saturday at age 69.

Mauldin was an All-American and all conference player and led the Atlantic Coast Conference in rushing in 1965. He was inducted into the York County Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.

Mauldin was a star at Rock Hill High before heading to Clemson, where the star halfback rushed for more than 1,150 yards in his career from 1963 to 1965 and also led the conference in punt returns.

He lived in Fort Lawn in rural Chester County.
