High school notes: Fort Mill pair named region soccer players of the year

Fort Mill’s Cassidy Parker was named the girls’ soccer player of the year for Region 3-AAAA, while Lancaster’s Ed Humphrey was named the league’s coach of the year.

Rounding out the All-Region 3-AAAA girls’ team: Cassidy Parker, Bailey Rich, Maddi Blaschke, Jenna Koster, Libbey Dewey – Fort Mill; Frances Whitesides, Peyton Patterson, Effie Spears, Mary Sizemore – Lancaster; Claire Allen, Cori Erwin, Alex Pletiniewski – Clover; Emma Maddox, Brooke Ward – Nation Ford; Sarah Bergin – Northwestern; Shelly Restificar – South Pointe; Sam Petit – Rock Hill; Mahoganny Setzer – York.

Boys’ soccer

All-Region 3-AAAA: Fort Mill senior striker Austin Cassidy was named the region’s player of the year after tallying 30-plus goals for the Yellow Jackets. Clover’s Graham Stafford was named coach of the year.

Rounding out the All-Regiona 3-AAAA team: Austin Cassidy, Jon Cutrone, Calvin Blaschke, Hunter Stricklin, Mason Strohl, Zach Lundy, Corbin Amaya – Fort Mill; Julian Welborn, Bailey Woolley, Erwin Salazar, Manny Lozano – Northwestern; Luke Snider, Kyle Dix, Josh Reid – South Pointe; Fernando Alpizar-Ramos – Clover; Nick Tourville – Nation Ford; Buddy Anderson – York; Christian Tarque – Lancaster.

Locals win at Greco-Roman wrestling tournament

Rhino Wrestling Club showed well at the recent South Carolina USA Wrestling Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling tournament held last weekend at Fort Mill High School.

In Greco-Roman wrestling, Rock Hill’s Silas Allen won the Intermediate division in the 80-pound weight class, while Jake Strong, from Fort Mill, won the Junior Division in the 138-pound class. In Freestyle, Allen won another title, while Strong took second. In the junior division, Rock Hill’s Michael Grubb and Fort Mill’s Jake Strong both placed third in their weight classes.
