Winthrop plays the winner of Liberty-Radford on Saturday, 45 minutes after the conclusion of the 10 a.m. game.
The Herald reported on Friday that the Eagles played in the 10 a.m. game but that was derived from an older bracket. The Big South flipped the bracket Thursday night, a move pre-approved before the tournament by the leagues coaches to keep teams from playing each other three times in a week. Its the same kind of tournament bracket that the SEC uses.
Winthrop took two out of three games from Radford back in early April, winning the first two in Rock Hill 6-0 and 7-4, before dropping the Sunday contest 1-0. The Eagles didnt play the Big Souths No. 1 seed, Liberty, during the regular season.
High Points surprise 9-0 win over the Flames on Thursday evening sent Liberty into the losers bracket. Following wins over Charleston Southern on Tuesday and Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Winthrop still has yet to lose in the tournament. A win Saturday against Liberty or Radford would push the Eagles into Sundays championship game. Either of those two teams would have to beat the Eagles twice to reach the final.
High Point is also 2-0 in the tournament and would need to beat Campbell or Coastal Carolina just once to advance to Sundays championship game. High Point swept Winthrop during three games in mid-April.
