A Monday afternoon wreck on Interstate 77 left two people injured and slowed Memorial Day traffic for more than one hour as emergency workers cleared the scene.

S.C. Highway Patrol officials say a driver from Columbia lost control of her SUV after one of her tires blew out. Troopers shut down two lanes of traffic near mile marker 87 and Gold Hill Road in Fort Mill around 12:30 p.m.

When authorities reached the scene, the Ford Expedition was found overturned, said Lance Cpl. Garry Miller with the highway patrol. The driver, 51-year-old Lecia Taylor and her passenger, 52-year-old Danny Shubert, also of Columbia, were taken to the Carolinas Medical Center, Miller said.

Both Taylor and Shubert were wearing seatbelts, he said. They were extracted from the SUV before they were taken by ambulance to CMC of Charlotte.
