— A motorcyclist died Monday after striking a turkey in Chester County.

Juan Marteel Thompson, 39, of Carlisle was driving a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle east on Leeds Road at 6:15 p.m. when he hit a turkey, which caused him to veer of the road and then strike several mailboxes, according to Lance Cpl. David Jones with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and Thompson died of blunt force trauma, Coroner Terry Tinker said.
