An argument between a 20-year-old man and his stepfather in Rock Hill escalated into a fight on Saturday night and sent the son to the emergency room, where doctors suspected he was suffering brain hemorrhaging from head trauma.

Rock Hill Police met the victim at Piedmont Medical Center on Saturday around 8 p.m., according to a police report. An officer saw cuts on the man’s forehead and the back of his head.

The man told police that his step-father had punched him “over and over again” while he was sitting on a couch. Then, his stepfather struck him repeatedly with the stock of a pellet-rifle, the report states.

He told police that the man was swinging the rifle “like a baseball bat,” hitting him at least twice in the head.

While one officer met with the man at the hospital, another officer was dispatched to meet with the step-father at the Rock Hill Law Center. Police spoke with Robert Wayne Lambert, 63, who said it was his step-son who started the fight, according to the report.

Lambert told an officer that he hit his stepson out of self-defense. Lambert had scratches on his face and an injury on his shin, the report states.

Later, Rock Hill officers met with Lambert’s wife, who witnessed the fight. She told police that she saw Lambert assaulted her son, according to the report.

After searching the home on Franklin Street where the fight allegedly happened, Rock Hill Police arrested Lambert, charging him with assault and battery, first degree, police records show.
