CLOVER — A 5-year-old Clover girl has died after a traffic collision in central Georgia over the Memorial Day weekend, coroner officials said.
Emily Ross died Monday after the Sunday afternoon crash near Allentown, Ga, said Billy Matthews, Wilkinson County (Ga.) coroner. Rosss mother, Christina Griffith, 40, was injured and remained Tuesday afternoon at a Macon, Ga. hospital.
The vehicle that Ross and her mother were in collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Georgia Highway 112 and Georgia Highway 441, Matthews said. Emily was first taken to a hospital in Dublin, Ga, then airlifted to Macon where she died, Matthews said.
According to the Georgia Highway Patrol, Griffith was driving a 2000 Honda Civic in the southbound lane of Highway 112 and failed to stop at the stop sign. The Honda went through the intersection and into the path of a Nissan Pathfinder, which was unable to stop and then struck the Honda.
The driver and passenger in the Nissan were injured and taken to Fairview Park Hospital.
Charges are pending.
A fundraising site has been set up for Emily's funeral.
