— The father accused of assaulting his 6-month-old son will be charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and simple possession of marijuana, according to Richland County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Curtis Wilson.

Richland County deputies found the man assaulting the boy Tuesday afternoon, according to Wilson.

Deputies said the Chapin baby was taken to the hospital with injuries to his upper body.

Deputies were called to the house at 12 Pickard Court shortly after 3 pm., Wilson said. They found the father assaulting the boy. The father allegedly resisted the deputies’ efforts to subdue him and he was tasered, Wilson said.

Both the father and son were taken to the hospital. The boy did not sustain serious injuries, Wilson later said.

"The little boy is going to be okay," Wilson said Wednesday morning. "Both the father and son are still in the hospital recovering."
