ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Bond was denied for a Fort Mill man accused of stabbing his wife and then hitting her with the couples rental car.
Officers were called to the Regional Medical Center around 2:39 a.m. Monday after a 44-year-old woman was stabbed in the neck by her husband Michael Dwayne Barber, and struck by the rental car he was driving, Orangeburg County Sheriffs Office Chief Kenny Kinsey said.
The couple was traveling from New York to Port Canaveral after they missed a cruise ship to the Bahamas from a New York port, Kinsey said.
Our investigation indicates they missed the ship because they did not have proper identification, Kinsey said. The couple picked up their identification and began driving to Florida to meet the ship there.
Kinsey said the couple began arguing at exit 145A on I-26 about 1:45 a.m. Monday morning.
The woman was able to get assistance and was taken to the hospital, Kinsey said.
Officers located Barber shortly after the incident at a local restaurant.
Barber has been charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime and attempted murder.
