York County Coroner Sabrina Gast identified the victim as Roger J. Blankenship, 48, of Kannapolis, N.C.

Blankenship was riding a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on S.C. 901 near Sturgis Farm Road at about 3:50 p.m. when he ran off the right side of the road, said Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne.

The motorcycle hit a road sign and then a tree, Rhyne said, throwing Blankenship off.

No other injuries or cars were reported in the crash.

The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
