A 23-year-old Fort Mill man is behind bars this weekend after being arrested for breaking into a Rock Hill apartment with a gun and a knife.

Rock Hill Police say Devin Amere Brazil, of Allison Street, is one of two men suspected of burglarizing a home with six people inside on Thursday morning around 5 a.m., according to a police report. The break-in happened on Fieldcrest Circle near Celanese Road and Interstate 77.

The two men kicked in the front door of the Fieldcrest Circle apartment and demanded money, the report states. One of the suspects fired a handgun into a bedroom wall and "began throwing decorative items around and destroying" the home, according to police.

The other suspect then grabbed a 19-year-old man who lived at the home and held a knife to his throat, the report states.

A 20-year-old woman at the apartment told police that she knew the suspects' first names. She also gave them $600 after they demanded cash, according to the report.

After grabbing the money, the suspects fled the scene, police say.

Rock Hill Police later arrested Brazil on Thursday evening and charged him with burglary and attempted murder, police records show. He was then transferred to the Moss Justice Detention Center where he's waiting for a second bond hearing.

Brazil has also been charged with several counts of kidnapping, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, assault with a concealed weapon and criminal conspiracy, according to the York County Sheriff's Office website.
