Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams garnered some off the field attention Monday when he gave away his business-class seat on a flight as a way to thank a Marine for his service.
The ninth-year NFL veteran posted a photo on his Facebook page showing a man in his dress blues sitting at an airport along with the boarding pass for the seat he planned to give to the man. The post read "He just doesn't know it yet but he will be sitting in this seat when he boards the plane I always give up my 1st class seat! #isalutethetroops!"
When posting the picture on Twitter, Williams added "I always give up my seat to military if my seat is better! I truly appreciate our troops #flyingtherightway."
Some of Williams' followers didn't like to see him publicize his act of kindness.
Others warned Williams that the man in the picture may not be a real Marine.
@DeAngeloRB Just wrote this on your FB page. He looks like a "faker". As a Marine, I can tell you NO MARINE WEARS COVER'S INDOORS!— Justin (@jamos14) July 7, 2014
Regardless of whether the man is or isn't a member of the military, Williams earned the respect of many.
