Asheville police charge driver in pedestrian death

— Police have charged as Asheville man after a pedestrian was killed while walking on a sidewalk.

Twenty-nine-year-old Maximilian Alexander is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, operating a vehicle in a careless or reckless manner and failure to have insurance. It was not clear if Alexander has an attorney.

Investigators say 66-year-old Virginia Senechal was struck around 12:15 p.m. Sunday on a tree-lined street in north Asheville with sidewalks on both sides of the road.

Police have not said how the vehicle ended up on the sidewalk.
