Rock Hill Police caught an accused burglar in the early hours of Wednesday morning after two officers surprised the suspect who thought he was in a "good hiding spot" in the woods.
Authorities arrested Brandon Jaquantious Hutchinson, 20, of Rock Hill, on Wednesday when he approached his ex-girlfriend's car under the assumption she was there to help him run from officers and a K-9 unit, according to a police report. His ex-girlfriend had called 911 because Hutchinson allegedly tried to break into her home through her child's bedroom window just before 3 a.m., the report states.
When police arrived at the Spruce Street home, Hutchinson had fled, according to the report. Police say he was wanted by state probation and parole officials.
After officers searched the area around the home and couldn't find Hutchinson, police asked his ex-girlfriend to call him. Hutchinson told her he was "hiding in the woods and watching police search for him," police say.
Hutchinson then asked his ex-girlfriend to pick him up "once he found a good hiding spot," the report states. The woman drove her car to pick Hutchinson up and two Rock Hill officers hid in the vehicle with her to try and catch Hutchinson.
Near Spruce Street and Rich Street, Hutchinson emerged from the woods and approached the woman's car, police say. The two officers then jumped out of the woman's car and arrested Hutchinson after a short foot chase, the report states. Police charged Hutchinson with first degree burglary.
