Kingsmore 2nd for pair of BSC awards

Winthrop softball standout Lisa Kingsmore was recognized by her peers for excellence in the classroom and on the field in 2008.

Kingsmore, a rising senior, finished second in voting for both the Big South Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Big South Conference Athlete of the Year. The Scholar-Athlete award was voted on by the league's sports information directors, while the league's athletic directors, senior woman administrators and SIDs voted on the Athlete of the Year award.

The All-Big South performer was named the 2008 Big South Conference Player of the Year, while earning Louisville Slugger All-Region First Team and a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Second Team All-America honors.

In addition to her on-field performance, she enters her final year of school with a 3.997 grade point average with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. She earned CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America Honors and was named the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball.
