Panthers make room for Tyler, cut Burton

- daringantt@carolina.rr.com

CHARLOTTE -- The Carolina Panthers made the necessary roster move Tuesday, releasing defensive tackle Antwon Burton to make room for trade acquisition Tank Tyler.

Burton was an early season pickup (after being cut by St. Louis), but they clearly preferred to keep 2008 sixth-round pick Nick Hayden — who was deactivated Sunday in favor of Burton.

It's largely a moot point, as Tyler's acquisition gives the Panthers their third active tackle on game days (behind starters Damione Lewis and Hollis Thomas).

The Panthers also shuffled their practice squad defensive tackles, signing Rashaad Duncan and cutting Terrance Taylor.

Duncan, an undrafted rookie from Pitt, went to camp with Tampa Bay and spent some time on the Bucs' practice squad this year.

Taylor, who was Indianapolis' fourth-round pick out of Michigan, was in Charlotte less than a week.
