Casajuana leads Eagles past Cougars

From staff reports

CHARLESTON -- Miquel Casajuana scored for the second straight game to lead the Winthrop men's soccer team as they picked up a 1-0 nonconference victory Tuesday at College of Charleston.

Casajuana found the back of the net late in the first half for his fourth of the season. Wylie Rea served a ball into the 18-yard box and the Cougars defense headed the ball away, but the clear didn't go far enough. Casajuana trapped the ball as it was cleared, spun around and ripped a shot into the lower right corner for the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute. The last three goals scored by the Eagles have come off the foot of Casajuana.

The Eagles, who struggled defensively over the first month of the season, earned their third shutout in the last four games to improve to 9-2-2 on the year. With the loss, the College of Charleston falls to 8-8.

Winthrop played the game without the services of its leading scorer Matthew Skonicki, as he sat out with an injury.
