Reid nominated for NCAA Woman of Year

Winthrop senior Stephanie Reid has been nominated by the Big South Conference for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Reid was a standout for the Winthrop softball team and was a finalist for the Big South Conference Woman of the Year. Allyson Fasnacht of Liberty took home that honor and both have been nominated for the NCAA award.

Reid, a member of the Canadian National Softball Team in 2005 and 2006, was a three-time All-Conference selection during her career and helped the Eagles win back-to-back Big South Tournament championships in 2007 and 2008.

A two-time Big South Presidential Honor Roll member, Reid was named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar in 2007 and 2008 and received an Outstanding Academic Performance certificate in Ecology in the Fall of 2007.

During her career, Reid volunteered at several local elementary schools. In addition, she was involved in the Rock Hill Walk for Literacy all four years at Winthrop and participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in 2007-08.

Winthrop's co-captain her junior and senior seasons, Reid became the fifth player in school history with 100 career RBI. She ranks second in career games played (235), third in runs (142), second in hits (200), second in home runs (23) and third in stolen bases (49).

She was also named the 2005 Big South Freshman of the Year and is a three-time All-Big South selection.
