Former Winthrop men's golfer Pete Alminas is one of 96 NCAA Division I players who were selected Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Alminas capped his Winthrop career in 2008 by earning All-Big South Conference honors and winning the Big South Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's golf. He graduated with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.61 while majoring in finance.

Alminas was a three-time Big South Men's Golf All-Academic team member and the first Winthrop men's golfer since Kyle Christman in 2004 to be voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Alminas finished his senior year ranked among the top 10 in the Big South in scoring average (team-best 74.07).

He posted three top-10 finishes last season and was Winthrop's top finisher in six events. Alminas also is a four-time Big South Presidential Honor Roll member and a four-time Dean's List selection during his career.
