Chester High School hired a football coach on Tuesday.

CHESTER -- One of the most successful eras in Chester High School football came to an end on Friday.

CLEMSON -- At any given time during Chester's 67-53 loss to Greenville in Saturday's Class AAA Upper State championship game, there were 10 athletes on the floor.

CHESTER -- The Chester community was swirling in "Cyclone-mania" in late November as the school's football team was in the midst of reaching the state championship game for the first time in 44 years.

WINNSBORO -- "We definitely want to take it to the house of Devan Downey," Chester coach Jason Smith said in reference to the Cyclones basketball legend -- and current South Carolina Gamecock -- following his team's dramatic 65-57 win over Travelers Rest on Tuesday.

CHESTER -- The weight room really paid off for Donald Sims, who needed every bit of strength to dominate the boards and lead Chester to a 61-48 victory over Camden in the second round of the Class AAA playoffs on Friday.

CHESTER -- Chester guard Gene McCaskill has been down this road before.

TRAVELERS REST -- It was a blur to Kayla Jenerette, but it was a necessity for the Travelers Rest girls basketball team.

On one side, South Pointe took the court without two starters, which includes standout guard Stephon Gilmore, who sat out with an ankle injury.

COLUMBIA -- It wasn't what anyone expected, but for Chester and its 17 seniors who pulled on the Cyclone red, white and blue for the final time, the 14-12 loss to Wilson in the Class AAA State Championship game was a culmination of a four-year turnaround.
