FORT MILL — Only a week removed from its 76-0 loss to South Pointe, Fort Mill faced another tough task in Rock Hill.

The result was no different for the Yellow Jackets as Rock Hill piled 225 yards rushing on 28 carries in its 50-0 thrashing of Fort Mill. The Bearcats won the game on the ground, only throwing the ball nine times for 48 yards.

After the game, Fort Mill coach Ed Susi said his team has to play better.

“I’m not going to sugarcoat anything. We have to get better,” Susi said. “We missed a ton of tackles. We’re just going to go back and work as hard as we can and see what happens.”

Rock Hill coach Joe Montgomery said his team has already weathered the tough times Fort Mill is experiencing now.

“They’ve split schools, we’ve been through that,” Montgomery said. “They have to cope with it like we did, but Susi will get through it, but it’ll take some time.”

The weather didn’t help either team. Both clubs dropped balls on kickoffs and punt returns due to the rain, while Fort Mill fumbled four snaps and recovered them all. The weather made a difference on one crucial play, when Rock Hill coughed the ball up to Fort Mill on the 5-yard line.

The fumble was the lone negative play for Rock Hill, who scored seven touchdowns, including a 20-point first quarter. Jerante Hood and Jamal Tyler each scored two touchdowns, and were the only players on the field who could cut on the wet grass. Tyler said the two were able to be so effective in the rain because of “natural-born talent.”

The talent on Rock Hill’s current team allowed them to reach four wins Friday night — the same amount they won all last season.

“We spent 11 months getting ready for this season,” Montgomery said. “Every month is important in winning each game, and we get great effort from our kids because they’ve put their months in.”
