GREAT FALLS — The Great Falls Red Devils broke out some sharp new uniforms for Homecoming that were donated by a couple close friends of the program.

That was about the only thing that was sharp about their performance on Friday night in Pride Valley, as they had to hold off the scrappy Buford Yellow Jackets, 20-14, in a Region 3-A football game.

“It’s good when you can not play good and still win,” Red Devils coach Ken Schofield said. “We overcame a lot of distractions with Homecoming, and that’s a testament to our other coaches.”

Terrence Jeter’s 4-yard TD run with 5:43 left provided the deciding score for Great Falls, and Daon Rice’s interception of a screen pass with 28 seconds left sealed it.

Rice made a perfect read of the same play that had gotten Buford back in the game before halftime, when Anthony Williams took a screen 77 yards with 49 seconds left to make it 14-6.

An interception and 55 yard run-back to the one by Britt Wells with 9:34 to go set up Buford to tie the game at 14.

Great Falls next plays at region rival and defending A champ Chesterfield in two weeks. The Red Devils defeated Steve Taneyhill’s Rams last year.
