Blythewood 23, Lancaster 13

The Blythewood Bengals traveled to Lancaster hoping to ruin the Bruins' Homecoming. They did just that, as a muffed punt and Lancaster's inability to score when they got inside the Bengals' red zone enabled Blythewood to escape with a win.

With less than 2 minutes left in the first quarter, Brandon Wilds scored from 7 yards out to make it 6-0 Blythewood. Wilds' run capped a drive that lasted more than six minutes.

Late in the second quarter, after an Alex Sharpe field goal made it 9-0 Blythewood, Zed Truesdale returned the kickoff 65 yards to Blythewood's 35. Two plays later, Timar Campbell's 29-yard run made it 9-6. Blythewood drove 75 yards just before the half to seize the momentum. Daniel Young found Greg Cuthbertson from 11 yards out to make it 16-6. Alex Roach missed a chance to draw Lancaster close when his 29 yard field goal was wide left with 20 seconds left in the half.

Lancaster's best drive took only 2 minutes of the third quarter and gained five first downs. Matt Reese fournd Derrick Kirkland at the very back of the end zone to make it 16-13. Lancaster then stopped the Bengals at Blythewood's 40-yard line, but Brandon Reese muffed the punt at the Bruins' 32. Wilds' 1-yard run six plays later made it 23-13.

The Bruins had 2 chances to pull closer, but the Bengals defense held them inside the 10. Shaq Lamar returned a Blythewood punt to the Bengals 9, but Zed Truesdale was stuffed by the Blythewood defensive line at the 1 on fourth down. With half a minute left, Derrick Kirkland's pass was intercepted by Kyle Edwards at the 5 to seal the game for the Bengals.
