BLYTHEWOOD -- Lancaster's special-teams play proved to be the difference as the Bruins survived the Blazers' furious fourth-quarter comeback en route to a 23-20 Region 4-AAAA victory Friday night.
Alex Roach's first-quarter field goal provided the final margin, and Marshawn Rhoney's 10-yard return after Ervin Moore blocked a third-quarter Ridge View punt put Lancaster ahead, 23-0.
Ridge View scored all of its points in the final quarter, but it was one final special teams play that secured the victory. Darius Robinson's tackle after a bad snap on a Blazers field goal attempt turned the ball over on downs with three minutes left, allowing Lancaster to kill the clock and seal the win.
“After three tough losses in three weeks, it was good to get a win,î”Bruins head coach Bennie McMurray said. “Ridge View never quit, but we hung on.”
