RICHBURG — Through a sloppy game full of penalties, fumbles and a dropped touchdown pass, there were two constants for Lewisville: the Johnson brothers. Isaiah and Elijah Johnson made big plays offensively and Lewisville’s defense adjusted to McBee’s wishbone to lead the Lions to a 28-14 win Friday night.

The Lions did struggle at times against McBee’s unbalanced line and wishbone, particulary on the first drive of the game. The Panthers drove 65 yards in 16 plays and used up nearly 7 minutes, but were stopped on fourth down at Lewisville’s 1. From its own goal line, Lewisville drove the length of the field. The drive was capped off by a 5-yard Isaiah Johnson run to make it 7-0 Lions after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Lewisville began to make the mistakes that would help keep McBee in the game. The Lions had four straight penalties to back them up after having a first-and-goal inside the 5. Tierrel Simpson also dropped a touchdown pass and had a costly fumble on fourth down. McBee capitalized on the fumble, scoring on a 7-yard Deshawn Allison run to make it 7-6 Lions at the half.

The third quarter saw Lewisville’s running game took control. Chris Brett scored on a 26-yard run, and after an Elijah Johnson 40-yard run, he scored from 1 yard out to make it 21-6 Lions after three quarters. Elijah Johnson then caught the two-point conversion pass from Isaiah Johnson.

Johnson again scored from a yard away in the fourth quarter to make it 28-6 Lions. McBee drove 51 yards after a Lewisville fumble late in the quarter. Deshawn Allison scored from 2 yards and ran in the two-point conversion to make the final 28-14 Lewisville.

Elijah Johnson finished with 150 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, while Isaiah Johnson had ran for 81 yards and a score on 14 carries.

“We need to correct the penalties and turnovers,” Lewisville coach Floyd Drum said after the game. “They (McBee) were unbalanced. We shifted a man over to the unbalanced side,” to help stop the Panthers’ wishbone.
