Festival in the Park

It’s that time of the year —time for Festival in the Park, Charlotte’s longest-running arts and music event, now in its 44th year at Freedom Park. This nationally-recognized festival features music, performance art and visual arts native to the Southeast runs today through Sunday. There’s something new this year —the youth talent showcase, highlighting talents of local children and teens in music, dance, juggling, comedy and drama. Main Stage entertainment offers some of the region’s top bands. Tonight, see blues favorite Powerhouse. Saturday’s lineup offers the three-band punch of Chapel Grove (original rock); Cruis-O-Matic (classic rock); and perennial faves The Spongetones (classic/original rock and Beatles/British Invasion favorites). Finally, on Sunday, enjoy The Charlotte Youth Symphony, followed by Tropical Culture, wrapping up the fun with a shot of Latin rock. DamonWilliams at Winthrop

Triple Creek Horse Show

Saddle ’em up for the Triple Creek Horse Show at 11 a.m. Saturday at Triple Creek Farm, S.C. 322, Rock Hill. Classes are Halter, English, Western, Gaited, Timed events and fun classes. Clover festival

The Clover Jaycees host a fall festival and street dance Saturday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot. There’ll be cars, music from Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs and lots of fun.

NarroWay Theater

This foot-stompin’ heart-tuggin’ story takes you to East Tennessee, where life moves a little slower. “The Gospel According to Tennessee” will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at NarroWay Theater, 3346 U.S. 21, Fort Mill. Tickets are $9.95 to $29.95; call (704) 831-8893.

Nikhil Korula’s music

Discovery Place

If you’ve ever wondered where you’re gonna use those math skills visit Discovery Place in Charlotte. Its new interactive exhibition “Flip It, Fold It, Figure It Out,” shows families how math shapes their world. The exhibit runs through Dec. 31 and is free with general museum admission. Christian artist Tom Conlon

60th annual Emmy Awards

The new fall TV season kicks off in earnest this week, but not before industry bigwigs gather to shower some love on the best and brightest of last season. And now Emmy gets real as reality-show hosts Tom Bergeron, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Jeff Probst and Ryan Seacrest join forces to host the event. It’s at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Paintings by Kevin Morrissey

A visual dialogue. Gallery Up presents “Hominy, Paintings by Kevin Morrissey” through Oct. 17 in the downtown Rock Hill gallery in the Gettys Art Center. Drawing from references to agriculture and industry, the Winthrop University graduate creates a visual dialogue about growing up in the South and the effect is has on personal identity. Works include brightly layered paintings reminiscent of old signage and promotional posters interspersed with figurative stencils.
