Clover police chief injured in S.C. 55 accident

- The Herald

CLOVER -- Clover's police chief was injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Chief Legrand "Chip" Guerry, 48, was taken to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. He was released from the hospital around noon Wednesday, a PMC spokeswoman said.

Guerry was treated for minor back pains, according to Capt. Charles Neil of the Clover Police Department.

The state highway department responded to the accident on S.C. 55, about one mile east of Clover, said Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin of the Highway Patrol.

Around 7:55 a.m., Guerry was driving a 2009 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle west on S.C. 55 when he slowed for traffic and was struck in the rear by a pickup truck driven by 18-year-old Trey Alexander Watson of York, Gaskin said.

Guerry, who wore a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to PMC, Gaskin said.

Watson also wore a seat belt. He was not injured, Gaskin said.

Authorities charged Watson with driving too fast for conditions and driver inattention, Gaskin said.

No other charges are pending, Gaskin said.
