City Club opens new restaurant downtown

- jfoster@heraldonline.com

The slate of restaurants in downtown Rock Hill is growing, and now, another option has been added to the mix.

The Hampton Street Cafe, located at the corner of Hampton and East Main streets, opened last week in an unused part of the building occupied by The City Club.

The restaurant is operated by The City Club and is open to the public for lunch and dinner.

The menu, which is separate from the offerings at The City Club, includes a selection of Southern cuisine appetizers, salads, sandwiches, sides and desserts. Entree prices range from $5.99 to $8.25.

The restaurant also serves beer and wine.

“It still has the same City Club quality items, but it's a lower price point,” said Stacey Hiller, general manager of both the new cafe and The City Club. “We tried to design a menu that was price-friendly and quality-friendly.”

Turning the previously vacant space into a separate, but public, restaurant made financial sense, Hiller said, as it will require very little overhead.

Hiller hasn't done much traditional advertising yet and is relying on word of mouth.

It seems to be working so far, she said.

“Every day, we get a little more busy at lunch,” she said. “It's just a slow climb, but it was expected to be slow.”

The Hampton Street Cafe is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays for brunch.
