A Rock Hill man was fatally shot Tuesday in what police are calling the city's second homicide of the year.

York County interim Coroner Sabrina Gast identified the victim as 31-year-old Adrian Street of Rock Hill. He was shot around 6:30 p.m. at 961 Sandborn St., police said.

No one had been arrested in the shooting late Tuesday, said Lt. Larry Vaughan of the Rock Hill Police Department.

Authorities have not determined a motive for the shooting.

"There was an altercation down the street," Vaughan said. "Then, there was some kind of altercation in the yard. We don't know if the victim was involved in it."

Street was taken by ambulance to Piedmont Medical Center, where he died.

No weapon was recovered at the scene, but police recovered three shell casings near the house, Vaughan said. Witnesses told police a man fled the scene in a gold-colored car after the shooting.

As police secured the house and its immediate surroundings with yellow crime tape, some neighbors said such violence is becoming the norm in the area.

"When I heard two shots, I went back in the house," said Hazel Mitchum, who lives three doors away from the house where the shooting happened. "This isn't the first time there's been trouble over here."

Tonya Campbell's 19-year-old son, Devion, lives next door to the house where the shooting occurred.

"He called me while this was going on, and he left me a message," Tonya Campbell said. "He said before he knew anything, he heard shots. (Then) everybody scattered."

The shooting marks the second homicide of the year for Rock Hill police. In January, police responded to the Cherry Grove Apartments, where they discovered the body of 20-year-old Amber Marie Schiavone, who had been shot to death. Police have issued a warrant for a suspect in that case, though no arrest has been made.

Anyone with information about Tuesday's shooting is asked to call the Rock Hill Police Department or CrimeStoppers of York County at 1-877-409-4321.
