CLOVER -- Students at Clover High School will start classes on a three-hour delay today because of a security concern, the school's principal said late Tuesday.

Principal Ron Wright said the delayed start is "an err on the side of caution."

"It's not a Columbine thing," Wright said when reached at home Tuesday night. "It falls into the category of phone calls, rumors and graffiti."

He declined to release specific details because he said he didn't want other students to copy the behavior.

Students should arrive today in time to report to third period at 11:15 a.m., according to a posting on the school's Web site. Students will have to provide their own transportation to school as buses cannot run for a three-hour delay that affects just the high school, the site states.

The delay should not affect most students because the school was on a three-hour delay for state testing, according to the Web site. Wednesday's HSAP testing will be postponed until the state-mandated makeup day, Wright said. The delay primarily affects 10th-grade students, he said.

In a separate note to parents, Wright wrote, "Each parent must be able to decide for themselves whether or not to send their child to school."

Wright said he was made aware of the possible security concern around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and spent the day probing the tip.

"We will work very hard to track down the source of this disruption," he said. "If we do (find the source), we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law."
