INDIAN LAND -- Mrs. Marie Massengill Meeks, 86, of Indian Land, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at The Haven in Pineville, N.C.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randall E. Odom officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in Indian Land, Mrs. Meeks was a daughter of the late John William Elms Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Fitchet Elms. She graduated from Indian Land High School. Mrs. Meeks was a former buyer for Belk Department Store and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She enjoyed dancing and her friendships. She was the widow of Leroy Pate Massengill and Robert Franklin Meeks.

Surviving are her son, L.P. "Buddy" Massengill and wife, Debbie of Brentwood, Tenn.; two daughters, Julie Massengill-Ross and husband, Allen Ross of Charlotte, N.C., and Crystal Melton and husband, Richard of Chester; her brother, J.W. "Jake" Elms of Greensboro, N.C., and Douglas Elms of Indian Land; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sloan Elms and Sidney Elms; and a sister, Betty Lee.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 26, 2007, at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home of Julie Massengill, 16420 Plantation Woods Drive, Charlotte, NC 28278.
