To be eligible for pre-K, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014.
Parents should bring the child’s legal birth certificate copy with the state seal, two proofs of residency with the name and address of the parent registering the child, and up-to-date immunization records when registering.

Focus on creating equitable schools
The 60th anniversary of the landmark Brown vs. the Board of Education decision has inspired Pedro Noguera’s lecture, which will also relate to “second-generation discrimination” and highlight what can be done to create equitable schools.
Noguera, the Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education at New York University, is a prolific scholar who has published more than 150 research articles, monographs and research reports on topics such as urban school reform, youth violence, race and ethnic relations in the American society, the role of education in community development and conditions that promote student achievement. He is also the executive director of the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education and co-director of the Institute for the Study of Globalization and Education in Metropolitan Settings.
The colloquium honors late English Professor Dorothy Perry Thompson, founder of Winthrop’s minor in African-American Studies program, said Adolphus Belk, director of the program and associate professor of political science.
The lecture will be in Whitton Auditorium in Vivian Moore Carroll Hall. It is a free and open to the public.

Scholarship offered for CHS student
Jackson, a 1983 graduate of CHS, named the scholarship after her father, Landis Jackson, who worked in the Clover school district for many years.
Students applying for the Lifting And Navigating Determined Inspired Students Scholarship must demonstrate volunteer community service, exhibit leadership skills and have a financial need, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Students should see the Clover High School guidance department for additional details. Applications are due to the CHS guidance department by April 9.
