Gander Mountain headlines several new announcements for the ongoing RiverGate expansion, joined by Pier 1 Imports, Versona Accessories and TCBY.
A 45,600-square-foot Gander Mountain joins the previously announced HomeGoods, Michaels and Ulta Beauty in the second phase, just across from the existing SuperTarget at the shopping center at N.C. 160 and N.C. 49. The $20 million RiverGate expansion announced in the fall by Childress-Klein Properties should see stores opening this fall.
Chris Thomas, developer with Childress-Klein, said last week during the annual Steele Creek Residents Association meeting, since opening its first phase, RiverGate is the companies top performing shopping center.
The ninth Gander Mountain in North Carolina will be the first in Charlotte.
“We are thrilled to bring a new Gander Mountain store to south Charlotte, and give more of our friends in the Queen City and the surrounding region opportunities to experience our top-quality gear and knowledgeable service at great prices,” said David Pratt, company president and CEO.
Gander Mountain serves enthusiasts of hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities. The Steele Creek store will employ 50 to 70 full-time positions, plus part-time and seasonal workers.
The nearest Gander Mountain store to the Lake Wylie area is at Franklin Square in Gastonia, N.C.
Childress-Klein also announced Pier 1 Imports, Versona and TCBY will help fill out the 22-acre, 150,000-square-foot expansion. Pier 1 is based in Fort Worth, Texas, and has more than 1,000 stores nationwide. The home goods and furniture retailer opened 29 stores last year.
Versona Accessories, based out of Charlotte, has 40 stores located mainly in the southeast, including at The Arboretum in Charlotte and The Village at Sandhill in Columbia. The store sells fashion jewelry, accessories and apparel for women.
TCBY sells frozen yogurt at more than 300 stores nationwide. The nearest locations are at Baxter Village in Fort Mill, in Rock Hill and Gastonia.
