A man who collapsed in a Mecklenburg jail after being arrested in the shooting death of his girlfriend died of natural causes, according to an autopsy report obtained by the Observer.
Paul Clark Williams, 55, died of hypertensive heart disease, which was compounded by emphysema, the autopsy states. Before he passed out in a Mecklenburg jail on Oct. 17, he complained of shortness of breath.
Williams had a history of high blood pressure and had previously been treated for throat cancer, the report states. He had previously had his larynx and thyroid removed.
Williams was arrested in connection with the killing of Jestine Clyburn on Oct. 15 in the Hidden Valley community in northeast Charlotte. Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
