You may have noticed this week and last that the Lake Wylie Pilot looks a bit different.
The Pilot is now being printed at our sister paper, The Charlotte Observer, along with our other York County newspapers. The Charlotte presses are newer than the one we'd been using in Rock Hill. They use flexographic technology, a water-based printing process resulting in a cleaner and crisper looking newspaper, and the ink will not rub off on your hands or clothes.
Many newspapers have gone to regional printing arrangements because of the costliness of maintaining stand-alone production operations. Press and packaging equipment is expensive to buy and maintain. Our conversion has been made easier by the close working relationship among all of our papers' staffs in Lake Wylie, Rock Hill and Charlotte. And, those on our production staff whose jobs are affected were offered positions at The Observer.
Never miss a local story.
Another change will be coming soon. Behind the scenes, we are upgrading our newsroom computer system this spring. The new system will improve our efficiency in writing, editing and designing pages. You expect information to be delivered in many ways, including print and online. This new computer system is designed to take advantage of both formats, and stories will be published to lakewyliepilot.com faster and with more features such as photos and videos.
A great deal of planning and training has gone into the improvements we're making, and we hope you'll enjoy the results.
