COLUMBIA -- Fishing really comes alive when you get a close-up view of a big bass striking a lure in the Bass Tub demonstration at the 25th Annual Palmetto Sportsmen's Classic March 27-29 at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia.
The giant mobile Bass Tub aquarium stands 9 feet tall, visible from both sides and complete with rocks, stumps and other cover. The 5,000-gallon tub is stocked with live fish including bass, crappie, striped bass and others. The Bass Tub is operated by professional fishermen who stand on top in a small boat and teach how to fish and offer tips.
Doors will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, March 27; from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 28; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 29.
Classic-goers will find more than 300 exhibitors on site with the latest fishing, hunting and outdoor equipment for show and sale.
Admission costs $6; parking is $2. Seniors 60 and older get in for $5, while children 10 and younger are admitted free. Visitors bringing five canned-food items for Harvest Hope Food Bank receive $1 off admission.
