McCONNELLS -- Mrs. Jean Leslie Gordon, 83, of 5338 McConnells Highway, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Agape Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 4858 McConnells Highway, with Reverend Jan Senneker officiating and Reverend James Gable assisting. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Born January 15, 1924 in York County, S.C., Mrs. Gordon was a daughter of the late Martin Luther and Florence Mae Simpson Leslie. She was preceded in death by her brother, Martin Leslie and two sisters, Pauline Leslie and Rebecca Faris.
She was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, where she was a former choir director and also taught the youth choir. She was a former choir director of Rogers Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was employed for many years with M. Lowenstein in Rock Hill, where she worked in the accounts payable department. In April 1942, she and her sister, Rebecca, and friend Margaret Bratton won first place in the girls trio competition at the State High School Choral Concert held at Winthrop College
Jean and her husband, Mills, to whom she was married for 42 years, lived in McConnells, where they enjoyed their many days together raising their family, traveling and gardening.
Mrs. Gordon is survived by her husband, S. Mills Gordon, of the home; two sons, Gerald M. Auten of Fort Mill and Harold S. "Buddy" Auten Jr. of Rock Hill; two daughters, Cynthia A. Walker of Catawba and Pauline A. "Polly" Hydrick of Aiken; two step-sons, Robert "Bobby" King of York and Kenneth M. Gordon of Townville, S.C.; her brother, David C. Leslie, of Catawba; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the church from noon until time of services and other times at the home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Agape Community Hospice, 159 Sedgewood Drive, Rock Hill, S.C. 29732 or to The Pipe Organ Fund of Neely's Creek A.R.P. Church, 974 Neely's Creek Road, Rock Hill, S.C. 29730.
