ROCK HILL -- Mr. Hampton Kenneth Snipes Sr., 85, passed away at his home on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007.
His funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C., with the Rev. Larry Hays officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Snipes, son of the late Thomas Hampton and Martha Rowell Snipes, was born in Lancaster, S.C. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Beulah Long Snipes; his son, Hampton Kenneth Snipes Jr.; six brothers; and two sisters.
Mr. Snipes served proudly in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He became the youngest commander of the American Legion Post 34 and was honored March of this year for 60 years of continuous membership. After the war, Mr. Snipes returned home to help operate the family business, T. H. and Sons, Inc., of which he was president. He was a man of true generosity to his family, Epworth Children's Home, York Technical College Foundation and St. John's United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his brother, Charles Edward Snipes Sr. of Rock Hill; his sister, Louise S. Case and her husband, Harris of Rock Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family of Mr. Snipes sincerely appreciates the efforts of his home health care providers and Drs. Nicholas Tuttle and J. Shah.
